The fifth season is in the starting blocks and the Düsseldorf Jeck:innen are eager to bring the Hoppeditz back to life this year. This year is under a very special star: We are celebrating 200 years of Düsseldorf Carnival! The motto is fittingly "200 years - Hütt on wie et wor". 🦸🏼🎭🍻

This year, 11.11. falls somewhat inconveniently on a Monday, which is why the Düsseldorf Carnival Committee has come up with something very special: the stage program starts as usual at 10:45 am and the Hoppeditz awakens at 11:11 am. But that's not all, there's a second program starting at 5:45 pm. From 18:00 - we can hardly believe it ourselves - Brings, THE Cologne carnival band, will be on stage. So all those unfortunates who have to work that day can still ring in the fifth season properly after work.

Hoppeditz... wake up!

At 11:11 a.m. on 11.11.2024, the time has come again in front of Düsseldorf's town hall market square: the fictitious jester figure "Hoppeditz" awakens. From an oversized mustard pot, he reads the riot act to the city leaders in a humorous speech. The so-called "Narrenschelte" is a traditional spectacle that puts the city in an exuberant festive mood and carnival fans should definitely not miss it!

Well-known bands and artists will provide entertainment on the open-air stage well into the afternoon. From 11:40 am, the ever-popular Rhythmussportgruppe will perform, KG Regenbogen (the largest queer carnival club in Germany) from 12:40 pm and Hermes and Band will be on stage from 2 pm.

From 6 p.m. there will be the biggest highlight: Brings are coming to Düsseldorf! Brings has been supporting the Düsseldorf carnival for years, and rightly so! Of course, old Düsseldorf bands such as Alt Schuss and the Swinging Funfares will also be playing.

If, for whatever reason, you can't make it to the Rathausplatz, you can stream the whole event live on YouTube and bring the Düsseldorf carnival to your office!

Costume tinkering put aside and ears pricked up:

Düsseldorf has a proud carnival tradition in which the "Hoppeditz" plays a special role. This foolish contemporary is symbolically brought to life and ushers in the fifth season. A wake-up call from the old town shouts: "Wake up, you revellers!" - and carnival is already in full swing.

Celebrations are held in costume, whether planned well in advance or spontaneously donned, and with plenty of camels and Altbier. It is practically obligatory to wear a jester's cap and hand out confetti - a carnival without it would be unthinkable here. If you still turn up without a disguise, you can be sure to be quickly put in the right mood by other jesters.

Time for Altbier:

Who brews the best Altbier in the city is controversial among Düsseldorfers. But when, if not at carnival, do you have the opportunity to simply walk around to different breweries and form your own opinion? Grab your friends and give it a try. Here are a few recommendations from us:
