International Women's Day in Munich - Events on March 8
March 8 is International Women's Day - a day dedicated to women's rights worldwide. We'll show you which demos, festivals and events will be celebrating it in Munich in 2025! 💜
Before that, a quick check: do you actually know where International Women's Day comes from and what it's all about? It was established in 1910 by the German socialist Clara Zetkin as a day of action and originally referred to women's suffrage. Since then, many different topics have been addressed on March 8: Successes are celebrated, grievances are exposed and equal rights are demanded. In many countries, it is a day of protest, solidarity, visibility, remembrance and exchange.
All of this will still have a place in Munich's cultural life in 2025. Cultural events are particularly suitable for creating visibility for women in art, music and literature. For example, as part of various cultural festivals that dedicate their program entirely to International Women's Day - sometimes not just on 8 March, but over several weeks. In this blog article, you can find out which festivals offer great events, from live music to poetry. We also show you which demonstrations you can attend to make your voice heard and stand up for women's rights.
