With mom through Berlin: A day full of favorite places
Is your mom in town? The perfect occasion to spend some quality time together again - without the hustle and bustle, but with some really nice moments.
Sure, the Berghain queue, chilling in Görli or queuing at Mustafas are Berlin classics - but probably not what you want to show her. Instead, it's about the Berlin she'll love: green, cultural, charming, delicious - and full of little surprises.
I've put together a guide for you here that combines exactly that. From art and coffee to sundowners and dinner to a touch of nostalgia, it's all here. For the two of you - and for memories that will last.
And if you want to give her a little extra love for Mother's Day , there's an idea below that really comes from the heart. But read for yourself! 😉👇🏻
KW Institute for Contemporary Art
10117 Berlin
Time for a bit of art - but not dusty, but fresh, bold and to the point. The KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Mitte shows you exactly that: current positions in contemporary art that are thought-provoking, surprising or simply visually impressive. What is shown here is often political, sometimes unwieldy, but always relevant. There are always new exhibitions, new artists and new perspectives. Perfect for strolling through large halls with your mom, stopping to discuss or simply marvel!
Café Bravo
After enjoying the art is before the coffee party - and nowhere is this better than at Café Bravo, which is tucked away in KW's inner courtyard. The futuristic glass pavilion looks pretty special from the outside - and inside you can expect really good coffee, homemade cakes and a relaxed atmosphere. In summer, you can sit outside in the courtyard, surrounded by art and tranquillity. And when it's cooler, it's really cozy inside in the pavilion - perfect for a short lunch break or an extended mom's coffee with all the trimmings.
Say thank you: Little Red Riding Hood & your message
When you walk out of Café Bravo, full of cake and in a good mood, it might be a good time for a little surprise. Not loud, not cheesy - but simply from the heart. Because sometimes a few words are enough to say it all. That's exactly what the "Say it with Little Red Riding Hood" campaign is for. You can create a personal message and stick it on a bottle of Rotkäppchen sparkling wine or Rotkäppchen non-alcoholic. Here's how it works:
This turns a sparkling wine into a real memento - perfect for Mother's Day or simply to tell your mom how nice it is that she's here!
➡️ Buy Rotkäppchen sparkling wine or Rotkäppchen non-alcoholic in 0.2l or 0.75l
➡️ Select a message or write it yourself
➡️ Upload receipt
➡️ Labels are sent to you free of charge by post
If you order by April 21, 2025 , your labels will be with you in time for Mother's Day on May 11. The promotion runs until May 31 - so it's also great if you want to make someone else happy!
Museum
Gropius Bau
The Gropius Bau is the perfect place to broaden your horizons with your mom. It's not just about looking at art here, but experiencing it with all your senses. The exhibitions address major themes that you might even talk about over dinner. Many artists work directly on site - this creates a special closeness and makes the visit almost a little intimate. And even if it's only a short detour: the impressive architecture and the special tranquillity in the building almost automatically ensure that you take a deep breath - a nice moment together in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the city.
ZENNER Biergarten & Weingarten
If you want to show your mom a real Berlin feel - but without the hustle and bustle, instead with a view of the water, good food and a relaxed atmosphere - then the Zenner in Treptower Park is just the place for you. You can sit under large lime trees, look out over the Spree with a cold drink in your hand and simply enjoy life. Things are a little quieter in the Weingarten - with fairy lights, wine barrels and Mediterranean vibes. Perfect for a glass of rosé at sunset or some live music if you want to stay a little longer. Maybe there's a DJ playing or a small concert - no matter what's going on, the vibe is always just right.
Restaurant
Clärchens Ballhaus
At the end of the day, things get really special again: Clärchens Ballhaus is not a restaurant like any other - it is a piece of Berlin history. Between the chandeliers and creaking floorboards, you'll feel a bit like you're in an old movie. Here you can enjoy traditional German cuisine - from Königsberger Klopsen to schnitzel - while being told what Berlin used to be like (or what you imagine it used to be like).
A day that stays:
A day with your mom in Berlin - full of favorite places, conversations, art, good food and maybe a glass or two of sparkling wine. And that's exactly what days like this are for: to consciously spend time together again and create memories that will last.
If you toast together in the evening, perhaps even with a bottle of Rotkäppchen that you have personalized with a label - then it will be perfect. And let's be honest: is there a nicer way to say "thank you"?
