True to the motto "March 8 is every day", we want to introduce you to FLINTA* from Berlin and their work in this new format.

Drum roll for Tamara Güçlü! She has lived in Berlin-Friedrichshain for over ten years and works as a presenter and music journalist as well as a musician under the name TAM.

Dear Tamara, thank you so much for letting us visit you in your cozy home. You just told us that you've been living in the apartment for 11 years and in Berlin for 12! That makes us curious about the beginning of the story: How did you get your professions and was it related to your move to Berlin?

No joke, I read the book "Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo" in my youth and even though it described a lot of bad things, I've had an indescribable fascination for Berlin, for music, for partying, for life in a metropolis ever since. I told my parents when I was 14: "One day I'll live in Berlin!" And they were like: Ah ok, cool. Haha. Well, then I moved to a very cute but incredibly stuffy small town in Bavaria for my studies after graduating from high school. It was good for concentrating and making new friends, but not for my curious and city-loving creative mind. And after learning the basics of journalism, communication studies and politics in Bavaria, Berlin was back on the agenda. From Eichstätt, I applied for a traineeship at Musikexpress, among others, and went to Berlin in October 2013. This job laid the foundation for my entry into the Berlin cultural landscape, first as a journalist, later as a presenter and then as an artist/singer.

What is your favorite part of your job?

I love that my talent for improvisation, my quick mind and my love of language are put to such good use at all levels and that I enjoy the privilege of getting to know so many different characters and perspectives. No two weeks are the same and this variety is extremely enriching for me, who can easily get mentally bored or feel underwhelmed by routines.

As a presenter, you are mainly known from the music context, such as "PULS Musikanalyse", which you presented for two years, or from stages such as the one at the Brandenburg Gate during the European Football Championships. In which context do you prefer to present?

For me, pop culture is the safe base in which I have specialized. But I'm interested in an incredible number of things at the same time, which is why I'm also interested in politics, society, social issues, sport and all kinds of art/culture. I don't like to commit myself and would also like to become more active in other areas.

Your way of moderating in three words?

Authentic, genuinely interested and funny!

Congratulations on your latest release! "Trip" came out yesterday and is your first release in 2025. You've been making music since 2020, dropped two EPs and now this track. What is your art about?

It may sound trite, but music is my outlet for making many processes of self-knowledge visible to the outside world. I really started writing songs in 2019/2020, having kept a diary almost every day since my earliest childhood and having already recorded lyrics there. My goal is that the struggles I experience and what I derive from them might help others to be more loving towards themselves and not feel alone.

How do you perceive the mutual support in the two sectors?

I have the impression that, on the one hand, there is incredibly strong support in certain circles and I have become increasingly aware of who the people are that I want to surround myself with in this regard. But a lot of people don't practice what they preach. They like to talk about FLINTA* allyship to the outside world, but when you actually ask for help, doors or DMs are often closed. And that frustrates me sometimes. That's why I'm trying to shift my focus to those who are genuinely supportive, and luckily there are a lot of them.

What would you like to see for FLINTA* people in the sectors?

I would like to see much more visibility, honest support and spaces where we can take place as creatives or in whatever disciplines, without fear that if there are more of us in visible roles, there will automatically be less of us. We can co-exist, trust me.

What does the feminist day of struggle represent for you?

To draw attention to the fact that it is a hard-won privilege for FLINTA* to be seen as equals in this society and that there is still far too little honest equality for us: Financially and in terms of content, for example in the role of mother, partner, colleague, boss, etc.

What would you like to say to your younger "self"? Do you have any tips for the FLINTA* out there?

Don't be so hard on yourself and have much more respect for your value, both internally and externally. Trust your intuition. If something feels fishy that's because it probably stinks for real. Don't accept bare minimum treatment - whether privately or in professional relationships. Stand up for your own needs. Plus: You are great, say it more often.

Advantages and disadvantages in relation to the Berlin location? Advantage = more networking + job opportunities? Disadvantage = more competition?

Yes haha and complementary to the disadvantages: sometimes too little rest and toxic lifestyles are often romanticized and glorified.

What has changed over the years?

My understanding of my own talents, self-confidence and self-esteem. Less tolerance for sexism / discrimination of any kind and by anyone. My definition of relationships and what makes a good one. I stopped glorifying assholes just because they're famous or bc I used to be accepting of that behavior. My need for peace and quiet. These jobs are my dream, but to do them well you need breaks and distance from a lot of things.

What is Berlin missing?

Affordable housing and more political commitment to the preservation and development of cultural spaces. People who move here to get involved and not just take from the city. Awareness of softness and politeness in our dealings with one another instead of elbows, social coldness and harshness.

What do you associate with your neighborhood?

Consistency and change, overpriced oat cappuccinos, great people, freedom and home.

Thank you Tamara <3
