The best events in August in the Ruhr region
What's going on beyond the borders of Dortmund? Where can you go partying in the Ruhr region? If you're asking yourself these or similar questions, we'll help you decide in a monthly column from STROBO. We have picked out the best events for the month of June.
04.08.-03.09. - Weber-Terrassen - Gelsenkirchen
The Weber Terraces in Gelsenkirchen will be launched on August 4. The project is all about the new use of urban spaces in the city. Here, parking lots will become city terraces. The whole thing will be accompanied by concerts, readings and workshops. If you prefer more relaxed evening entertainment, the readings by Lisa Roy, Lütfiye Güzel & Olufemi Atibioke on 18.08. might be something for you. All free and outside,
10.08.-23.09. - Ruhrtriennale - Ruhr area
The Ruhrtriennale - the festival of the arts - is entering the third year of Barbara Frey's directorship and she has prepared a super program. The program is located at the intersection of music theater, drama, dance, performance, concert and visual arts. Look forward to a production of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Earth Factory, Mopcut Feat Farida Amadou, The Garden of Earthly Delights, the rave by Third Room X Florentina Holzinger and much more!
11.08. - Ruhr Rap Stage - Duisburg
We would also like to recommend an event organized by us - Strobo - to you: As part of the Trans Urban Festival, we are organizing the Ruhr Rap Stage in cooperation with the Stapeltor on Averdunkplatz! We'll be bringing Dortmund's Patina Records, Essen patron Dein Couseng, Duisburg's versatile Cuffa and vinyl lover Ballin' BDOG to the stage.
It starts at 6 pm with Patina Records, admission is free. You can find more information here on our Insta page or on the Stapeltor page.
12.08. - Szeniale - Gelsenkirchen
The Szeniale brings a really cool line-up to the Hier Ist Nicht Da in Gelsenkirchen. There will be concerts by Kapa Tult, Ami Warning, Morley, Juli Gilde and Stina Holmquist in a relaxed open-air atmosphere - a broad mix of folk, indie, 90s hip-hop and pop. Tickets for the open-air event are available from €15.
19.08. - Charlotte Brandi - Essen
Things get really atmospheric at the Zeche Carl in Essen when Charlotte Brandi takes to the stage. The singer recently gained greater attention with her single with Tocotronic singer Dirk von Lowtzow. Now she is on her "Der Alptraum" tour. With her calm voice and melancholy lyrics, Charlotte Brandi definitely creates a special and very intimate vibe. Fans of thoughtful dream pop, indie and folk should not miss this concert.
Tickets are available on the Zeche Carl website from €20.
29.08. Intergalactic Lovers - Essen
For real indie rock connoisseurs, it's time to head back to the Zeche Carl. Because with Intergalactic Lovers, real indie icons are coming to Essen. The harmonious, melancholic sound of the Belgian band is now a little more electronic, but the vibe is still the same. The concert is even planned as an open-air gig. Definitely worth a visit.
Tickets are available via the Zeche Carl website and start at €22.
