Frequently asked questions about Halloween in Berlin
1. is the day after Halloween a public holiday in Berlin?
No! But this year we're in luck. Although the day after Halloween, All Saints' Day, is not a national holiday and Berlin is not part of it, we can still celebrate and get spooky until the early hours. Fortunately, the fact that 31.10.2025 falls on a Friday means that the Berlin Halloween problem won't arise this year.
2. do I have to dress scary on Halloween in Berlin?
You don't necessarily have to. But dressing up is fun. And especially on Halloween, we can let our spooky fantasies run wild and get really scary. There is rarely a mandatory costume requirement from organizers, but of course most people are happy about it, but if you don't feel like it, you can also enjoy Halloween costume-free.
3. is Halloween a public holiday?
Although All Saints' Day is a public holiday in many federal states, October 31 is officially a day like any other throughout Germany. It's up to you to change that! So get going and let Berlin shine in spooky splendor on Halloween this year.
4 Where does the Halloween costume tradition come from?
The tradition has its origins in the Celtic festival of Samhain, when it was believed that the veil between the living and the dead was thin on this evening and that ghosts were roaming around. To protect themselves from them and drive them away, people dressed up in spooky costumes.
5. can I also win free entry to events in Berlin on Halloween?
Yes, we also have various events on Halloween for which we are lotterying tickets. Just take another look at all the events in our list, where you'll also find some for which we're lotterying tickets :)
