Munich's museums are back
Would you like to go to the museum in this weather? That's now possible again. The incidence is dropping and you can look forward to open museums. Simply book an online ticket and off you go. With all the back and forth, it's easy to lose track of what's actually on show. We have put together an overview of all the current exhibitions in Munich.
Pinakothek of Modern Art
On the day of the reopening of the Pinakothek der Moderne, the exhibition Gerhard Richter. 54 Drawings, 3 Gray Mirrors, 1 Sphere (14.05.-06.06.21) opens at the same time. Recent drawings by the painter will be on display there. The Architecture Museum is showing The Architecture Machine. The role of the computer in architecture (14.10.20-06.06.21).
Lenbachhaus and Kunstbau
In the Kunstbau of the Lenbachhaus you can see the self-ironic paintings by Michaela Eichwald (01.12.20-12.12.21). Next door in the Lenbachhaus, the exhibition Gruppendynamik der Blauen Reiter (from 23.03.21) will be shown.
House of Art
Haus der Kunst is showing an extensive solo exhibition by British sculptor Phyllida Barlow (10.04.-25.06.21). In addition, the exhibition of the winners of the euward European Award for Painting and Printmaking is now open to the public for the first time. On display are works by Felix Brenner, Andreas Maus and Kar Hang Mui (30.4.-27.6.21).
Bavarian National Museum
In the immediate vicinity of the Haus der Kunst, the exhibition Art and Capital Crime (until 01.08.21) has been extended at the Bavarian National Museum.
Munich City Museum
The Münchner Stadtmuseum is currently showing the extended jewelry exhibition MUC / Schmuck. Perspectives on a Munich private collection (until 26.09.21) with works from the class of Prof. Karen Pontoppidan (Academy of Fine Arts Munich).
Jewish Museum
Right next door in the Jewish Museum is the exhibition Im Labyrinth der Zeiten. With Mordechai W. Bernstein through 1700 years of German-Jewish history (13.03.21-13.02.22).
Munich Art Gallery
On May 14, Kunsthalle München opens the exhibition Erwin Olaf. Unheimlich schön (14.05.-26.09.2021) with disturbing photographs by Dutch artist Erwin Olaf.
Brandhorst Museum
Museum Brandhorst is currently showing Lucy McKenzie - Prime Suspect (until 06.06.21). The Scottish artist is known for her painterly use of illusionistic trompe l'oeil effects and surprises with cynical humor.
State Museum of Egyptian Art
The Egyptian Museum is often overlooked in Munich, but it is always worth a visit. Currently on display is the exhibition Signs and Wonders (09.03.21-27.06.21) with works by contemporary artist Ugo Dossi.
