Volunteering in Berlin
Are you looking for an opportunity to volunteer? Then we've got something for you! Clear the stage for three organizations that rely on donations and support from volunteers in the areas of education, social affairs and animal welfare and would be delighted if you became part of their community!
LIFE TEACH US | Educational organization
They bring people from all areas of society to school whenever lessons are canceled. In Germany, this amounts to around 1 million lost hours per week. To do this, they need life teachers like you across Germany who are willing to share their life knowledge with students. The registration process is easy: simply download the app of the same name and after a few steps, schools can ask you for content you have selected, such as "What does friendship mean?", "How do you prepare a tax return?" or "What kind of apprenticeships are there?". You can find more detailed information here. You can find a video about our visit to their Berlin office here.
BERLINER TAFEL e.V. | Non-profit organization
They combine the rescue of food with support for people living in poverty. The initiative group Berliner Frauen e.V. founded the first food bank in 1993, primarily to improve the situation of the city's homeless. Over the years, more than 900 charitable German food banks have emerged from this. The idea: food donations from supermarkets etc. are collected by volunteers (this could be you), sorted and distributed to people living in poverty. On the one hand, the sorted food donations from the Berliner Tafel go to 400 social institutions, and on the other hand to 48 of its own distribution points, where volunteers (that could be you) take over the distribution. The food banks are mainly financed by donations. If you want to be part of their mission, there are many options to support them. You can find more information here. TIERHEIM BERLIN | Animal Welfare Association
The Animal Welfare Association for Berlin has been committed to helping animals in need since 1841. It is the sole shareholder of the Berlin animal shelter, which cares for around 1,300 animals every day on an area the size of around 22 soccer pitches. The team, which is largely made up of volunteers, looks after animals ranging from cats and dogs to rabbits, birds, geese, pigs, monkeys and reptiles. Educational work is also a top priority. According to the motto "the children of today are the animal welfare activists of tomorrow", the animal welfare association carries out educational work in schools and invites classes to the grounds. In order to continue their valuable work, they are dependent on donations. Whether monetary donations, donations in kind or donations of time - any support helps! You can find more information here.
