What's happening on feminist day of struggle? - Events on 08.03. in Leipzig
March 8, Feminist Day of Struggle, is just around the corner and, as always, that means protest, solidarity and lots of power on the streets. Feminist Struggle Day - not Women's Day. Because this is not about niceties, but about struggles, about rights, about resistance to patriarchy in all its ugly forms.
Why is this important? Because feminism is not a flash in the pan. Because the struggles for social justice, against patriarchal violence, for reproductive rights and for a world beyond cis-heteronormativity cannot be waged in one day. Because feminist alliances are growing, networking, learning from each other - and yes, also about taking anger and hope to the streets together.
This article will give you an overview: What's happening in Leipzig on March 8? Which events should you not miss the week before? What demos, actions and after-parties are there? Grab your fellow campaigners, pack your banner - see you on the streets! 💜✊

Frequently asked questions
What is Feminist Fight Day anyway?
It is not just about women, but about everyone who is affected by patriarchal oppression. The Feminist Day of Struggle adopts an intersectional perspective and makes it clear that it is not enough to simply demand a little equality. We want to challenge the entire structure! That's why there will be protests, actions, demonstrations and plenty of space for exchange and networking in Leipzig on this day.
What exactly will happen in Leipzig on March 8?
Lots and lots! The big demonstration starts in the afternoon and is organized by feminist, anti-racist and queer groups. There will also be actions, readings, workshops and creative forms of protest throughout the day.
Do I have to register somewhere to take part?
Nope! The demos and most of the activities are open to everyone. You may have to register in advance for some workshops because places are limited. But in general: just come along, join in and be loud!
I am a cis man - can I still run?
The question comes up again and again, and the answer is: it depends on how you behave. The day of struggle is primarily a space for FLINTA* (women, lesbians, inter, non-binary, trans and agender people), because they are the ones who are structurally oppressed. However, there are also areas in which cis men are welcome as supporters - for example in care structures or as protection at the demo. Important: It's not your day to be the center of attention, but to listen, learn and show solidarity.
I've never demonstrated before. Is that a problem?
Not at all! Everyone starts at some point and there are many ways to get involved. If you are unsure, you can find out beforehand how a demo works or go with friends. There are awareness teams that can help if you feel uncomfortable. And the best thing is: you're not alone - there are lots of us!
How can I support if I can't go to the demo?
There are many ways to support feminist struggles! Share the calls on social media, donate to feminist initiatives, support strikes by care workers, educate yourself and talk about feminist issues in your community. And most importantly: solidarity must happen all year round - not just on March 8.
Why should I go there at all?
Because we are still a long way from where we need to be. Because feminist struggles are important for everyone - for a world without oppression, without sexism, without queer hostility, without racism. Because it gives us strength to organize together, to take anger to the streets and to experience joy, creativity and community at the same time. And because it would be absolutely cheeky to just let this day pass you by!
