2025 marks the 150th anniversary of Maurice Ravel's birth. In keeping with this, the program presents a selection of works in which we encounter typical elements of Ravel's sensuous and refined music: effective virtuosity characterizes the popular "Tzigane", spectacular for the audience, highly demanding for the performers, a "virtuoso piece in the style of a Hungarian rhapsody", as the composer himself said; but also "Gaspard de la nuit", which is one of the most difficult pieces ever written for piano. Ravel's preference for French baroque music can be heard in "Le tombeau de Couperin", while the 2nd movement of his 2nd violin sonata is inspired by the new and exciting jazz of the time.
