Hardly any other composer of the 20th century remained as committed to the tonal language of late Romanticism in his work as Sergei Rachmaninov. With this approach, he created works that still appeal to us today with their emotional density, melodic richness and palpable drama. The series of his piano concertos and symphonies form the crystallization point of his oeuvre. When Gabriel Feltz includes precisely these works on the program in his last three concerts as General Music Director on a single day, it is possible to trace Rachmaninov's creative development in a concentrated form. The enormous range of expressive worlds between euphoria, pathos, thoughtfulness, sensitivity and deep depression in which Rachmaninov moved in his music becomes visible.

With Rachmaninov, Gabriel Feltz focuses on a composer who means a great deal to him. As soloists, he is joined by pianists with whom he has a special artistic partnership. As with the Beethoven Marathon, "his" Belgrade orchestra, the Beogradska Filharmonija, will once again be performing with the Dortmund Philharmonic Orchestra on this Rachmaninov Day.
