One man, one chair, one guitar ...

As an entertainer with enormous enthusiasm, Mathias Nelles manages to build almost perfect bridges between Cologne songs, rock classics from the 50s to the 90s, Irish folk, German rock/pop and 70s cult hits in no time at all. "Singing only Kölsch all the time is too monotonous for me and my audience, it would also limit me too much musically," says the Cologne native, who regularly turns his performances into an audience event. "But Kölsch is also my mother tongue, so it's hard to imagine my repertoire without it." The most important thing, however, is authenticity on stage. "The audience has to feel every millisecond that Mathias Nelles is really there on stage, just as he is in real life, with all his strengths and weaknesses ... not just some mask with a chiseled-in smile." As an ex-animator, Mathias Nelles can say with full conviction: "On stage I've experienced almost everything there is to experience and also some things I couldn't even begin to imagine (especially on Ibiza).

At my gigs I don't have to get up in the middle of a song to get people to clap along, they do that all by themselves. And that's exactly why this small gesture from the audience is so incredibly important. Whether in bars, at a Cologne sing-in evening together with many Cologne hymns, street festivals, in Irish pubs, pub and international festivals, an open air and at countless private events, Mathias Nelles ignites a crackling bonfire where his audience is always the absolute focus.

"How do I inspire my audience? With a large portion of passion, a high level of atmosphere, an instinct for the right songs at the right time, a lot of humor and a large pinch of cheekiness - and as we all know, cheekiness wins".
