18. LICHTER Filmfest Frankfurt International

LICHTER is coming of age! Look forward with us to the 18th festival edition. An international film program on the theme of "fear", highlights of German filmmaking and the best feature-length and short films from Hesse and the Rhine-Main region promise a cinematic adventure full of moving stories. The festival will open on April 22 with Mehmet Akif Büyükatalay's conspiracy thriller "Hysteria" at the new festival center MASSIF E.

Until April 27, the former E-KINOS will also become a center for film culture with VR films, the AI competition "Future Frames" and contemporary video art.

Many exciting film talks with filmmakers from all over the world make LICHTER a very special experience. This year, the center of the festival is located in the heart of Frankfurt, in the MASSIF E, the former E-KINOS at the Hauptwache. Other festival cinemas include the Eldorado, the Harmonie, the Mal Seh'n Kino and the DFF - Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum.

LICHTER opens up new creative horizons with the first AI Sequence Prompting Competition "Future Frames", in which media artists create captivating visual worlds with the help of AI-supported applications.

As part of the festival, the German film industry will meet at the 5th "Future of German Film" congress from April 23 to 25 to discuss the diverse fears of our present as reflected in film culture. In public panels and workshops, filmmakers and political decision-makers will talk about the challenges of German film funding, the role of cinema as a place for social dialog and the influence of AI on film production.
