"1984" by George Orwell outlines the dark vision of the future of a totalitarian surveillance state, without individual freedom or privacy. Here, two people meet and rebel against a system in which the desire of a few for total power controls the thoughts and behavior of everyone else through surveillance, manipulation and propaganda.

More than 80 years after the novel was written, we ask: What do young people today fear, what do they hope for from the future? What value do they place on personal and social freedom? And what influence does the socio-political situation have on partnerships and relationships?

In highlights and movement sequences with three performers, Leo Kees develops a contemporary reading of the world-famous novel. "1984 reimagined" draws parallels between Orwell's world and today's society, in which the power of social media and the associated risks are increasing.
