In the 2023/2024 season, the Duisburg Philharmonic Orchestra already explored transcultural processes with the Indian Nobel Prize winner and poet-philosopher Rabindranath Tagore. The program put together by Kamalini Mukherji for the second chamber concert also follows the Europe-India axis, always looking in both directions. The Indian singer, who is also curating the "Eigenzeit - Musik von Jetzt" festival in the 2025/2026 season, is considered one of the leading representatives of the music of the Bengali-Indian polymath Rabindranath Tagore, who reshaped the culture and language of Bengal. In this unique concert, Tagore's music is reinterpreted through various musical traditions. The performance begins with a traditional Indian ensemble - with esraj, tabla/khol and Indian flute. This is followed by bridge instruments such as the lavta and the bağlama from the Middle East, which are joined by a western soundscape with flamenco guitar, saxophone and other instruments. The concert culminates in a fusion of these musical worlds, reflecting Tagore's embrace of global influences.
