September 2025: The Max Ernst Museum turns 20!
To celebrate this milestone birthday, we are holding a lavish museum festival full of art, memories and ideas for the future. A multifaceted program invites you to get to know all areas of the museum and actively participate.

PROGRAMME

11 am - 5 pm: Two-day sculpting workshop in the Fantasy Lab: Plastic-Fantastic. How do you create a three-dimensional image in cast concrete? We will experiment with different materials.

2pm-3pm: Open Saturday tour Hypercreatures - Mythologies of the future
Immerse yourself in the fantastic world of hybrid creatures in the exhibition "Hypercreatures - Mythologies of the Future".

5 pm: Lecture performance The Appropriator with Christoph Westermeier
In a lecture performance, the artist Christoph Westermeier looks at Max Ernst from a post-colonial perspective. Based on the life and work of Max Ernst, he poses questions about cultural appropriation and foreign authorship and places these complex connections at the center of artistic reflection.

7 p.m. - midnight: Party night at the Max Ernst Museum

7 pm: Pub quiz in the museum café Le Petit Max
Tanja Keck puts the audience to the test and not only asks for general knowledge, but also challenges you with questions about art history and Max Ernst. Solve the puzzles together and be surprised who will be the next Max Ernst expert. Le Petit Max will also be serving typical Rhenish dishes that Max Ernst may have enjoyed around 100 years ago.

8 pm: Quest in the HYPERCREATURES exhibition
Multimedia artist SOFF will take you on an interdimensional quest through HYPERCREATURES - Mythologies of the Future. Discover the exhibition in a unique way and explore the hidden dimensions of your own being.

From 9 pm: Techno party with the DJ duo A2iCE & BO3
Dortmund-based artists Lex Rütten and Jana Kerima Stolzer are the DJ duo A2iCE & BO3 and stand for bass-heavy, percussive and cross-genre sounds. Characterized by breakbeat, techno, bass and drums from all over the world, the two deliver an energetic soundscape. In the immersive mirror floor installation in the basement, the night becomes a special experience.
