September 2025: The Max Ernst Museum turns 20!
To celebrate this milestone birthday, we are holding a lavish museum festival full of art, memories and ideas for the future. A multifaceted program invites you to get to know all areas of the museum and actively participate.
On Sunday, we are inviting families and children in particular to the Max Ernst Museum. You can expect an exciting program of music, guided tours, our popular open children's workshop, performances and a sound artist who will approach the works of Max Ernst in a completely different way.
From 11.30 a.m.: Musical morning pint with the big band of the Brühl Art and Music School
In keeping with the motto "It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing", the big band of the Brühl Art and Music School will kick off the colorful family day with a lively concert.
12pm - 1pm: Performance with bird masks by Linda Jasmin Mayer
Inspired by Max Ernst's bird alter ego Loplop, fantastic hybrid creatures wander through the museum. Artist Linda Jasmin Mayer presents a performance with new bird masks that invite us to reflect on our role as humans and our relationships with non-human creatures. Afterwards, visitors can put on and perform the artist's bird masks in the special exhibition.
3-5 p.m. : Open children's workshop in the museum foyer
Frottage fun
Using the rubbing technique developed by Max Ernst, many imaginative pictures are created in the open children's workshop. Rubbing is allowed!
1 pm and 2:30 pm: Noise workshop
Noise maker and Foley artist Simone Nowicki will show in two workshops how she creates sounds for films and radio plays and will also let participating children and families try them out for themselves.
3 - 4:30 pm: Sing-along concert
The children's choir and the junior big band of the Brühl Art and Music School invite all families to a sing-along concert at the birthday party. There may also be a birthday serenade for the museum.
