22. Tag der Forts

In the organizer's words:

"Fort Day" traditionally takes place on June 1, 2025. With its motto "Peaceful. Together. Monuments. Explain.", it focuses on the passing on of historical knowledge and its social significance. On this day, you have the opportunity to get to know a historical chapter of our city. The former Prussian fortifications, the relics of which line today's outer green belt, have a formative influence on our urban appearance. Where once a bulwark was supposed to keep out potential intruders, in the 21st century recreational space, sports facilities and plenty of nature are the focus of a successful conversion. In this context, we pay special tribute to the originator and promoter of this transformation idea, the then Lord Mayor of Cologne and later the first Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Konrad Adenauer.

80 years after the end of the Second World War, during which some of the Prussian Works served as air raid shelters, emergency accommodation and even as internment camps for the National Socialists, the works, as silent witnesses to history, are a reminder of peace with their civilian purposes today!
