Description:
The 5th Academy Concert 2024/25 combines works from the German-Austrian late Romantic period and Finland. Richard Strauss' "Death and Transfiguration" describes an end-time figure driven by constant change. Erich Wolfgang Korngold's late violin concerto combines film music with classical music and is performed by Daniel Lozakovich as soloist. The young conductor Tarmo Peltokoski performs works by Finnish composers, including Kaija Saariaho's "Ciel d'hiver", which takes nature and the cosmos as its theme, and Jean Sibelius' last symphony, which has been described as the "Finnish Parsifal".
