5 DAYS OF SUMMER - The summer film week at Filmforum NRW
With the new summer film series 5 DAYS OF SUMMER, the Filmforum cinema invites you to a special cinema experience from August 27 to 31, 2025: 9 films on five days - for only 15 euros. Whether classics, cult films or curious B-movies - this is where great emotions meet quirky surprises, quiet memories meet loud laughs.
When the heat is still shimmering outside at the end of August, the Filmforum provides the necessary cooling - if it rains, the cinema brings summer back to the big screen. There are also cool drinks, as well as cocktails and ice cream from our sponsors Nomoo and Cocktail Plant - while stocks last!
The best part: all films are shown in their original version with subtitles, the festival is deliberately designed to be open and accessible - for cineastes, nostalgics, families, groups of friends and spontaneous cinema visits alike.
Wed. August 27 - 7 p.m.
STAND BY ME (USA, 1986, D: Rob Reiner, OmU)
with: Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman
Four boys set off on an adventure that will change them forever: They want to find the body of a missing boy - and encounter their fears, dreams and their own transience in the process. A sensitive, clever coming-of-age drama about friendship and saying goodbye to childhood.
Thu. August 28 - 7 p.m.
AMERICAN GRAFFITI (USA, 1973, D: George Lucas, OmU)
with: Richard Dreyfuss, Ron Howard, Harrison Ford
A night full of decisions: On the streets of Modesto, California, young people circle in their cars, fall in love, argue and surpass themselves. George Lucas captures the last evening before adulthood - atmospherically dense, humorous and with a legendary rock'n'roll soundtrack.
Fri. August 29 - 7 p.m.
PIRANHA 3D (USA, 2010, D: Alexandre Aja, OmU)
with: Elisabeth Shue, Jerry O'Connell, Ving Rhames
Party by the lake - but horror lurks underwater. When an earthquake unleashes prehistoric killer fish, the wet and happy spring break turns into a deadly trap. An over-the-top splatter fest that garnishes B-movie trash with high speed, irony and plenty of blood.
Fri. August 29 - 9 p.m.
THE BEACH GIRLS AND THE MONSTER (USA, 1965, D: Jon Hall, OV)
with: Jon Hall, Sue Casey, Walker Edmiston
Surf guitars, bikini dances and a "guy in a rubber suit" as a monster: a beast wreaks havoc on the beach in Malibu while teenagers shake to the music of The Hustlers. This obscure gem from the drive-in era offers wonderful 60s kitsch, wry dialog and pure creature-feature fun.
Sat. August 30 - 5 p.m.
500 DAYS OF SUMMER (USA, 2009, D: Marc Webb, OmU)
with: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Zooey Deschanel, Geoffrey Arend
Tom falls in love with Summer. But she doesn't fall in love with him. Looking back, he recounts the 500 days of their relationship - full of hopes, misunderstandings and pop culture quotes. Playful and painfully honest, the film shows how differently closeness and love can be perceived.
Sat. August 30 - 7 p.m.
AFTERSUN (UK/USA, 2022, dir: Charlotte Wells, OVR)
with: Paul Mescal, Frankie Corio, Celia Rowlson-Hall
A father and his daughter spend a vacation in a hotel complex - a memory that lies long in the past and yet remains vivid. A touching portrait of parental love and inner emptiness unfolds in fleeting gestures, shots and glances. Subtle, melancholy, of great intensity. One of the great cult films of recent years.
Sat. August 30 - 9 p.m.
CALL ME BY YOUR NAME (Italy/France/USA, 2017, D: Luca Guadagnino, OV)
with: Timothée Chalamet, Armie Hammer, Michael Stuhlbarg
Between peaches, books and excursions, a tender, passionate love story develops between 17-year-old Elio and adult Oliver. Call Me by Your Name tells the story of the first great love with a delicate touch - full of sensuality, lightness and quiet pain.
Sun. August 31 - 3 p.m.
MY NEIGHBOR TOTORO (Japan, 1988, D: Hayao Miyazaki, OmU)
with: Noriko Hidaka, Chika Sakamoto, Hitoshi Takagi
Sisters Satsuki and Mei move to the countryside with their father and meet Totoro, a giant, friendly forest spirit. With plenty of imagination and humor, Hayao Miyazaki tells of childhood, closeness to nature and magic in everyday life - a classic for all generations.
