Songs and chamber music by Fanny Hensel-Mendelssohn
As children, the Mendelssohn siblings were inseparable: they had lessons together, made music together and gave each other tips on composing. While her brother Felix had every opportunity open to him, Fanny had to fight against the conventions of her time, which were not particularly favorable to women composers. Fortunately, she did not allow this to deter her and, alongside her family obligations, she always nurtured her musical talent and composed diligently. These include songs such as "Über allen Gipfeln ist Ruh" (Above all peaks is peace) based on a text by Goethe and the Piano Trio in D minor op. 11. With works such as these as well as excerpts from correspondence and statements by contemporaries, the program creates an exciting portrait of Fanny Hensel-Mendelssohn, performed on historical instruments.
In cooperation with the Lehmbruck Museum.
The museum opens half an hour before the concert begins.
