50 Jahre UdK Berlin - Opening

An Experimental Ecology. Art practice in dialog between disciplines at the UdK Berlin.

To kick off the anniversary year 2025, the Berlin University of the Arts is celebrating the diversity of its disciplines with performances, installations, screenings, readings and concerts from all faculties and centers. Artistic experiments across disciplinary boundaries will demonstrate the possibilities and potential for cooperation and collaboration that the university has been offering for over 50 years.

In 1975, the Hochschule der Bildenden Künste and the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst were merged into one institution - the Hochschule der Künste, later the Universität der Künste Berlin. This foundation was more the political will of the state politicians of the time than a need for artistic cooperation between these two traditional institutions. Over the past half century, the UdK Berlin has taken a path that leads from an externally imposed organizational structure of artistic education to a content-based structure with its own artistic formats. And this beyond narrow disciplinary boundaries.

In order to promote the potential of artistic cooperation, an open call was issued explicitly looking for projects from at least two degree programs, faculties or centers of the UdK Berlin. Berlin University of the Arts is delighted to present a selection of these exciting artistic experiments by students, teachers, staff and graduates to kick off the anniversary year.
