Full concentration on the music: every year, some members of the Duisburg Philharmonic Orchestra are drawn to Italy, more precisely to the picturesque little town of Montepulciano, not far from Siena. Surrounded by the sun-drenched Tuscan countryside, the town is home to the Academy of Music and Performing Arts, where the musicians can work intensively on selected works that they present to Duisburg audiences on their return from the south. Fittingly, this time the program includes Brahms' cheerful 2nd String Quintet, which he put down on music paper during his summer vacation in Bad Ischl. This will be accompanied by the 1st String Quintet by Mendelssohn Bartholdy, composed in the spring of 1826 when he was 17 years old.
