6th symphony concert
MAGNUS LINDBERG (*1958): Concerto for clarinet and orchestra
ANTON BRUCKNER (1824-1896): Symphony No. 3 in D minor
The clarinet concerto by Finnish composer Lindberg is rhapsodic, stormy and restless, but also offers contemplative moments, occasionally spiced up with a small dose of "Disney". There are also moments of comedy, especially when he explores all possible - and even impossible - sounds of the clarinet.
Like many of his symphonies, Bruckner's so-called "Wagner" symphony also exists in several versions. The original version contained quotations from Richard Wagner's operas "Tannhäuser", "Tristan" and the "Ring". They were inserted in blocks and could therefore be removed in later versions without any loss of substance.
