The ballet tells the gripping story of the orphan boy Krabat, who learns not only the miller's trade but also the art of black magic in a gloomy mill. But behind the creaking beams lurks a deadly truth: year after year, the master's diabolical pact takes its toll. Only the power of love could save Krabat and the other apprentice boys - but will Krabat be prepared to risk everything?
