In this concert, world-class violinist Frank Peter Zimmermann performs the popular violin concerto by Johannes Brahms. Zimmermann first recorded this work on CD with the Berliner Philharmoniker around thirty years ago - a reference recording to this day. Born in Duisburg, Zimmermann regularly makes guest appearances with leading orchestras such as the Vienna Philharmonic, the Concertgebouw Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic under first-class conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Riccardo Muti and Franz Welser-Möst. After the concert break, the large-scale Tenth Symphony by Dmitri Shostakovich. The Russian composer wrote his deeply moving panorama of sound shortly after the death of the Soviet dictator Stalin. A musical liberation in which deep shocks resonate.
