Mismatched cousins David (Jesse Eisenberg) and Benji (Kieran Culkin) travel to Poland together to find out more about the life of their recently deceased grandmother. The road trip, which was intended as a journey into the past, confronts the two with the present, in which they question their relationship to each other and their family history.

"A Real Pain" by Jesse Eisenberg is a bittersweet tragicomedy about two estranged cousins who explore their family's Holocaust history in Poland. Eisenberg, who also plays the lead role of the rational David, directs the journey with precise pacing and a balance of humor and emotional depth. Kieran Culkin ("Succession") shines as the impulsive Benji and delivers one of his best performances to date. Aesthetically, the film is characterized by calm cinematography and a deliberate use of silence that respectfully captures historical locations?
