Abeneko & the Positive Mind - 25 Jahre Mwanza e.V.

MWANZA e.V. is turning 25 - and we are celebrating with a special visitor!
To mark the anniversary, we have invited an artist from Tanzania who is currently on tour in Europe (from June 6 to August 10, 2025).

He will be stopping off in Würzburg on July 4, 2025 - and we are really looking forward to celebrating this special day with him.

Abeneko is a Tanzanian contemporary live performer, singer, songwriter, guitarist, dancer and choreographer. Abeneko's music is a blend of contemporary East African beats, melodies, funk and Afro-fusion, combined with traditional dance, melodies and rhythms. The aim of the music is to promote traditional and contemporary Tanzanian music, dance and culture.

Abeneko's music is intended to give a new perspective to young Tanzanians who are typically inspired by western culture and other styles of music. They have not grown up with an appreciation of their own musical heritage, which is now being forgotten.

Abeneko & The Positive Mind have performed at major festivals in East Africa (Sauti za Busara, Bayimba, Karibu Music Festival) as well as in Germany, Denmark, Finland, South Korea and the USA. The band is known for their energetic and engaging live performances with exciting stories, entertainment and strong messages that address various social and cultural issues.

Abeneko has participated in numerous dance and music exchange projects and has performed with his seven-piece band in Tanzania, including at Sauti za Busara Music Festival in Zanzibar, Bayimba International Art Festival in Uganda, Fest Afrika, Ufa Fabrik, Wikiendi Live in Dar es Salaam, Barazani at the Alliance Francaise, Goethe Institute, Beat Festival, Gengeni Music Concert, Chap Chap, Marahaba Swahili Music Festival, Bagamoyo, Karibu Music Festival, Jambiani, Zanzibar, Jinja, Uganda etc.

Besides his career as an ABENEKO musician, he is a co-founder of ASEDEVA (www.asedeva.or.tz), a non-profit arts organization based in Tanzania, founder of Haba na Haba Dance Festival in Tanzania and co-founder of Marafiki Music Festival in Tanzania.
