At the center of the Yes, May Festival 2025 are two Japanese subjects that illuminate Japan's idiosyncrasies in very different ways. Just as the country has opened up to the West, the Japanese influence has manifested itself there in turn and is even present in everyday European culture today. In addition to manga, anime and cosplay, karaoke, a form of entertainment originating in Japan, has become particularly popular. The performers at the Ja, Mai closing party have taken up the cause of a special type of karaoke: Pony Tyler from Bremen. Pony Tyler is mass karaoke and gold sprint. A mixture of performance art, mobile karaoke bar, bike sprint and stage chaos. Mass karaoke means: everyone sings together, and sings songs of their choice. The winner of the bike race on stage gets to choose the songs. In the duel, volunteers from the audience compete against each other on two permanently installed Goldsprint bikes on a virtual 250m course - without resistance, but with lots of motivation and cheering. And of course, a dash of opera is not to be missed in the Yes, May karaoke. Giving in to the illusion of being a star - this also fits seamlessly into the motto of this year's Ja, Mai festival.
