The aDevantgarde - Festival of Composers is taking place for the 18th time this summer. Alexander Strauch and Markus Lehmann-Horn have put together a program that focuses on the concept of beauty. What is beautiful, in new music and in general? Which concepts go beyond mere questions of taste today? In this sense, aDevantgarde #18 invites you to a very beautiful festival.

JU[MB]LE Youth Ensemble for New Music Bavaria:SCHULTERBLICKE

Works by Pierre Boulez, Ulrich Kreppein, Grace-Evangeline Mason, Wolfgang Rihm and Markus Schmitt

The Jugendensemble für Neue Musik Bayern JU[MB]LE is celebrating its 10th anniversary with SCHULTERBLICKE. On the initiative of the composers Alexander Strauch and Johannes X. Schachtner and modeled on existing state youth ensembles, the first concert took place in June 2015 as part of the aDevantgarde festival. Since then, between 10 and 15 young people have come together every year for a long weekend and subsequent concerts to embark on the adventure of contemporary music with an open mind.

The program includes works from the canon of contemporary music as well as pieces composed especially for JU[MB]LE: With the chamber music work "Dérive I" by Pierre Boulez, whose 100th birthday will be celebrated in 2025, the program includes a work by a pillar saint of the avant-garde. The ensemble work "Blick auf Kolchis" is dedicated to the recently deceased Wolfgang Rihm. In addition to these glimpses of recent music history, the ensemble work "The Beauty of Decay" by the young British composer Grace-Evangeline Mason and the "Abendlied" by Ulrich Kreppein will also be performed. You can also look forward to Markus Schmitt's miniature cycle "The Celestial Order of Chinese Animals", which was created especially for the anniversary program.
