Adventsvesper des Dresdner Kreuzchors mit Vivaldis "Magnificat"

On Saturday, November 29, 2025, at 5:00 pm, the Dresden Kreuzchor invites you to its traditional Advent Vespers in the Kreuzkirche. Experience a unique program that combines the over 650-year history of this series of events with the music of Antonio Vivaldi.

The weekly vespers in the Kreuzkirche are a living legend. For over six centuries, they have attracted thousands of visitors without interruption and are a unique testimony to the continuity of church music.

The evening will focus on Antonio Vivaldi's "Magnificat" (RV 610). The Venetian master set this hymn of praise for Mary from the Gospel of Luke to music. The earliest version, composed around 1715, captures Mary's deep gratitude for her divine election and expresses the prophetic message that God will overthrow the mighty and exalt the humble.

Experience Vivaldi's work in nine movements, which captivates with masterful alternations between double choral passages and virtuoso solos. Accompanied by outstanding vocal soloists and the Dresden Baroque Orchestra, Vivaldi's composition unfolds as a highlight of Baroque church music.
