The young Ahmadjan comes to Germany from Afghanistan in 1972 to become an artist. From then on, he is torn between his homeland and a thirst for adventure, art and war, family and freedom, until he finally finds himself. In powerful images, Ahmadjan's daughter Maren Aministells hisimpressive biography based on the old Persian legend "The Conference of the Birds" by Fariduddin Attar. The journey takes us to the independent art scene of the 1970s in Kabul and Hamburg, to resistance fighters in the Hindu Kush mountains, to a time when American tourists camped in the parks of Kabul and to a looming endless war. Awarded the 2023 Comic Book Prize by the Berthold Leiginger Foundation. Originally from Normandy, Cathy Bazabas revitalizes Hamburg's comic scene with the Petit Kami comic store with her childhood enthusiasm for the "Bandes dessinées".
