In the midst of a society that has to deal with the consequences of war and the possibility of it flaring up again, director Damiano Michieletto and musical director Daniele Rustioni tell the love triangle between Aida, Radamès and Amneris.

People seek shelter in devastated places that once meant joy and lightness. Destruction is encroaching further and further, determining life both externally and internally. As commander, Radamès has to take on responsibility, a burden he is unable to cope with. When the famous triumphal march celebrates victory, the images of death and war continue to confront him, the traumatized man. The two women are also marked by war and displacement. For Aida, the situation means the loss of her roots, her family and the destruction of her love. Amneris also dreams of a different future. And in the end, the question remains: what could all their lives have been without war?

Director Damiano Michieletto and set designer Paolo Fantin have been working together artistically since their collaboration for the 2004 Graz Ring Award. Costume designer Carla Teti has also been part of the team since 2004. Together they have realized works at opera houses in Italy, the Netherlands, Zurich, London, Salzburg, Vienna, Paris and Berlin. Lighting designer Alessandro Carletti has also been part of Michieletto's creative circle since 2008.

Directing team:

The new production of Aida will be conducted by Daniele Rustioni from Milan, a specialist in the Italian repertoire that has already taken him to the world's major opera houses from New York to Milan. He has been Principal Guest Conductor in Munich since 2021 and can be heard in productions by Verdi, Puccini and Berlioz as well as in concerts.
