Alessio Cazzetta - "Love, Death & TheEternal Blues"

Immerse yourself in the cathartic cosmos of sound

Complex, dense and dazzling: this is the sound of "Love, Death & The Eternal Blues" by Alessio Cazzetta. Together with a brilliant sextet, the guitarist has transformed a personal statement into magnificent jazz music.

Every person is the sum of their experiences and Alessio Cazzetta could write a book about his. But for someone like him, who is one of the most accomplished composers and guitarists of his generation in Switzerland, it was only natural to transform his feelings, impressions and their processing into sounding art. "Love, Death & The Eternal Blues" invites the listener to bathe in this powerful cosmos and experience the same catharsis with which its creator gifted himself.
Despite its striking and unambiguous title, "Love, Death & The Eternal Blues" is not the album of a lamenter. On the contrary: the eight tracks are the result of a compositional confrontation with one's own state of mind, which subsequently defines the "eternal blues" as a life-affirming attitude through the collective energy of the musicians.

"Love, Death & The Eternal Blues" is also an album that the Basel-based Swiss with South African and Italian roots considers to be his first real work in terms of content and craftsmanship, because it is his most personal statement to date. It was recorded with - as Cazzetta calls it - an absolute dream team. The opportunity to go into the studio with saxophonist David Binney prompted him to call on the crème de la crème of Basel's cosmopolitan music scene. In addition to Cazzetta and Binney, flutist Fernando Brox, pianist Iannis Obiols, bassist Kuba Dworak and drummer Iago Fernandez complete this extraordinary sextet.
The result is a great moment of collective interplay. The musicians' desire to take a "walk" in the finely and precisely detailed spaces of Cazzetta's compositions is palpable every second. Guitar, saxophone, piano and flute dance alternately at different altitudes, make virtuoso use of the deliberately set free spaces and, under the grandiose care of bass and drums, come together in ever new formation variations to form a great whole. With these musicians, Cazzetta has managed to process his most intimate confessions in a transcendent way and create great art.

The restraint of the leader also plays an important role in this. Cazzetta leads the band from within and navigates the complexity and density of the collective playing with the finest of hands through both balladic terrain and energetic fields of force. And when he starts his solos, he amazes with his powerful playing, his warm tone and the wide-ranging lines that he masters masterfully. He, who began playing the guitar at the age of ten, benefits from his great musical interest. From Bach to Messiaen, from Coltrane to Miles or from metal to trap - Cazzetta knows how to apply his knowledge in a pointed manner without ever quoting.
"Love, Death & The Eternal Blues" is the result of a gifted musician who amazes with his understanding of sound and his creativity. For Cazzetta, the whole world is one big sphere of ideas. Life as a place of inspiration: Pantha Rei - everything flows and Alessio Cazzetta stands in the middle of this eternal river and everything that catches becomes music.
