I'm here - still here! Despite all the circumstances ... This artist bio is not a string of superlatives. It is real. My story tells of success, passionate failure, courage and a love of music. I am Alex Diehl. The year is 2010, a young artist packs up his guitar and rings the doorbell of a producer in Rosenheim unannounced. Baffled, he opens the studio door and listens to the surprise visit. This is where the journey begins.
That afternoon, the singer played the producer (Stephan Zeh) his first self-written German-language tracks in the middle of the studio control room. A cheeky move with a happy ending. 2011, the first
demo deal with Warner Music Germany. In that year, dozens of songs were created with various producers and songwriters from all over Germany - and never released. Stumbled briefly,
got up, carried on. This was followed by support shows, gigs in small pubs across Germany and couch gigs with fans from the very beginning. By 2013, the artist had built up his first solid fan base and organized a showcase in Berlin-Marzahn in a youth center on his own initiative. Tickets were sold in advance via his own current account and he printed the tickets himself. 100 concertgoers and a young A&R from the newly founded Sony label
"RCA-Deutschland" listened to him on this special evening in the capital. Six months later, the musician signed a band takeover contract with Sony Music Germany and from then on worked on his debut album "Ein Leben".
his debut album "Ein Leben lang" (released in 2014). This was followed by numerous support shows, including as the opening act for Revolverheld and Laith Al-Deen. They also gained their first TV experience and, with increasing
attention, the first German club tour with the band was booked.
The second album was tackled, but again under the band's own direction. The song "Nur ein Lied" was born in an extremely dark hour - on the night of the terrorist attacks in Paris. The emotion had to come out, if necessary via the cell phone on the Facebook page. The next morning, the cell phone video for "Nur ein Lied" already had over a million views. The artist was suddenly the talk of the town and was invited to one TV event
invited to one TV show after another. The radio station Bayern 3 decided to organize a new recording with the "Bayerisches Rundfunkorchester". This time not with a cell phone. This is how this special
song gained nationwide airplay and over eight million clicks on Facebook within a week. And suddenly old acquaintances from Sony were knocking on the door again.
The artist's reaction: without further ado, he donated all the proceeds from "Nur ein Lied" to "Save the Children". After all, the purpose of music is not only about economic factors. Sometimes it is simply about
hope, an outlet for the most multifaceted emotions, an impetus for tears of sadness and joy.
joy. If you have a voice, you have to use it! Still, you have to make a living. One week
after the release of the cell phone video on Facebook, the artist signed a recording contract with Universal Music for his second album. The major label also decided to donate all proceeds from "Nur ein Lied" - thumbs up! Album #2 entitled "Bretter meiner Welt" was released in 2016 and made it to number 38 in the German album charts.
Thomas Schreiber then approached the artist on an NDR TV program and asked if he could imagine performing "Nur ein Lied" at the German preliminary round for the Eurovision Song Contest. The song ultimately took second place in May 2016 and only just failed to make it onto the stage in Stockholm. But it didn't matter, because it continued seamlessly. The first big "Bretter meiner Welt - Deutschland- Tour" was coming up. After a year and a half of touring, work on album #3 began in 2016 and was
interrupted at the end of 2017 due to the singer's sudden illness. A two-year break due to health problems followed the hard-earned success of "Bretter meiner Welt". Christmas 2018
the musician ventured "back onto the boards". The concert at Lido Berlin was sold out within a very short space of time and turned into a wonderful comeback after a tough time.
The acoustic tour started in 2019 and the new songs from the current album "LAUT" (released in 2020) were presented on the "Zurück auf die Bretter meiner Welt - Tour". The release, distributed by Universal Music, was released on the band's own label BIG DIEHL RECORDS
and promptly reached number 68 in the German album charts.
The accompanying tour of Germany and support shows with Söhne Mannheims had to be postponed due to the Covid 19 pandemic. A large number of the dates were to be rescheduled in 2021 in compliance with corona
which has been further postponed to the end of 2022 due to the ongoing pandemic. Nevertheless, 2021 was a successful year, because with the help of Initiative Musik, my new management Dunstan Music and a new distribution agreement with Universal Music/Access Future, I was able to release my EP "The Songs I Never Wanted to Write". In addition to the EP, the explanations to the songs were released as a spoken word album "The Stories I Never Wanted to Tell".
2022 was marked by my first live album and preparations for the next studio album, which will be released in fall 2023.
As I said, my story is about ups and downs, about stumbling, getting up, gaining strength and carrying on. With my favorite quote, we are throwing ourselves into the next adventure, again on our own with fresh energy: "Everyone said: That won't work! Then someone came along who didn't know that and did it" (source unknown, but brilliant).
