Alexander Hawkins Trio

Alexander Hawkins is widely recognized as one of Britain's most innovative and imaginative pianists and composers. The self-taught (!) pianist with a great love and deep knowledge of the jazz tradition likes to combine this with classical references in his compositions.

It is worth mentioning that Hawkins has collaborated with Anthony Braxton in a number of groundbreaking projects, such as Braxton's Standards in 2018 and as an ensemble member of every legendary European tour in 2020, the recordings of which can be heard in full on the monumental 13-CD live set box. And his own trio playing here is still the core of British jazz legend John Surman's quartet.

So it's no wonder that Hawkins' trio is more than well-rehearsed and enjoys breaking new musical ground on stage. Surprises included! In addition to the virtuoso keyboard skills of the band leader, the sound and timing of Neil Charles (aka producer Ben Marc) and the sensitive playing of drummer Stephen Davis intertwine masterfully. Jazz and improvised music in perfect interplay between freedom and structure, composition and improvisation.
