Family opera by Pierangelo Valtinoni / Libretto by Paolo Madron after Lewis Carroll / Dramaturgical collaboration: Andrea Faschina / German text version by Hanna Francesconi / Based on a production at Zurich Opera / With surtitles
Alice follows the White Rabbit into Wonderland without knowing what awaits her there. She meets Zwiddeldei and Zwiddeldum and asks the Cheshire Cat for directions in vain, whereupon she ends up at a crazy tea party. The Queen of Hearts invites her to a croquet match, she has to attend a trial and finds her way back to reality through a dream. With Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll created one of the greatest English children's book classics in 1865, in which a whole cast of fantastic characters get into the most absurd situations. As a composer, Pierangelo Valtinoni deals creatively with the problem that the episodes in Wonderland deliberately omit any logic, but music needs a certain inner logic in order to exist. Born in 1959, Valtinoni has long since developed his very own signature style, which, with its stylistic diversity, is opera in the most beautiful sense: the music determines the action, not the other way around.
Following the success of the family opera Doktor Bartolos Geheimnis oder In Sevilla sind die Mäuse los, Alice im Wunderland is another production for young and old on the stage of the Stadttheater.
