Als wir nicht wussten, wer wir waren

Nicky runs away from home because it's unbearable there and would prefer to forget. Singer Gabriela, on the other hand, desperately struggles to remember. Their world has fallen apart at the seams - until the day they meet. Together they discover not only the power of friendship, but also the magic of opera. A story that connects the lives of two generations in a touching way.
The soundscapes that composer Misha Cvijović opens up to people aged ten and over in this chamber opera are somewhere between grand opera and minimalist musical narrative. Together with the libretto by Jan Sobrie, they allow the audience to engage deeply, but always lightly, with themes that affect the oldest and youngest people alike, albeit in very different ways. With this production, JUST aims to open a sonic door to grand opera that nevertheless uses the aesthetic means of modern children's music theater.
