Always Carrey On

In the organizer's words:

"Always Carrey On" is based on the radical change that Hollywood actor Jim Carrey has made to his public persona in recent years. Having dedicated his life to imitation, exaggeration and artificiality, he now, in middle age, wants to break with this being-for-others and penetrate to deep and honest truths. On the one hand, he gains clear-sighted insights into the brutal logic of the public sphere - but at the same time he increasingly loses himself in crude spiritual incantations. Walking this tightrope between an authentic search for meaning and a shrill, esoteric gesture, Carrey reveals himself as the figure of the sad clown who recognizes the world and despairs of it: How can one preserve one's own humanity in the face of the world's crisis? And what does it actually mean to be human?
