What does a language sound like beyond the meaning of its words?
How does its sound influence us?
And how does it speak to us?
The LOGOS MATER project by Amelie Duchow explores these questions and investigates the origins and emotional values of the world's languages through sound. The audio composition is based on phonetic and acoustic elements from a wide variety of languages and is shaped by the voices of people from all over the world.
Anyone can record their own voice via an online platform and become part of the creative process. The collected sounds are analyzed, manipulated and rearranged - creating a universal, wordless language that connects us for a moment beyond cultural and geographical boundaries.
LOGOS MATER invites the audience to reflect on the importance of language for our identity - especially now that over 40% of the world's 7,000 languages are threatened with disappearance.
