EVENT
The exhibition "Different from the Others" is dedicated to the life and work of the sexologist Dr. Magnus Hirschfeld.
To mark the 90th anniversary of the death of Dr. Magnus Hirschfeld (1868-1935), the Magnus Hirschfeld Federal Foundation (BMH) is presenting the new exhibition "Different from the Others". Six large-format panels with almost 50 exhibits shed light on the life and work of the sexologist - from the founding of the world-renowned Institute for Sexology (1919) to his persecution by the National Socialists and his exile and death in 1935.
The exhibition impressively shows how Hirschfeld's commitment to sexual diversity, gender equality and human rights has shaped generations and the challenges faced by the queer community then and now. It addresses the systematic destruction of the queer infrastructure after 1933 and the slow development of the culture of remembrance in Germany.
Curated by historian Andreas Pretzel, the exhibition offers fascinating insights into the history and significance of Hirschfeld's legacy - a plea for diversity, enlightenment and acceptance.
