Angélique Kidjo, the five-time Grammy award winner, is considered one of the greatest musicians of our time. With her extraordinary voice, her captivating stage presence and her mastery of multiple languages and cultures, Kidjo has established herself as one of the most influential forces on the international music scene. Time Magazine named her one of the "100 Most Influential People in the World" and "Africa's Leading Diva" in 2021, while Forbes listed her as one of Africa's most powerful personalities. She has also been honored with numerous awards and has already won a Grammy five times. Her current single Sunlight To My Soul (2024) was also nominated for a Grammy in the "Best Global Performance" category.
Born in Benin, Kidjo draws on the rich traditions of West African music and seamlessly combines them with elements of American R&B, funk, jazz and Latin American rhythms. Over the course of her career, she has released sixteen albums, each showcasing her unique ability to transcend cultural boundaries and fuse musical genres. Her latest album Mother Nature (2021) is a groundbreaking work that unites Kidjo with the next generation of African artists - including Afrobeat, dancehall, hip-hop and alt-R&B. The album is a celebration of human connection and a call for global solidarity in the face of climate change and social injustice. As Kidjo herself says: "This album is a love letter to Mother Earth and all the values that mean the most to us: Truth, trust, love, connection."
Her cross-genre performances know how to captivate audiences, be it at sold-out concerts in iconic venues such as Carnegie Hall or the Royal Albert Hall, or in collaboration with orchestras and symphonies worldwide. Her collaborations with renowned artists such as Philip Glass and her reinterpretations of classics such as Remain in Light by Talking Heads and the music of Celia Cruz demonstrate her relentless passion for honoring and reinventing musical heritage.
In addition to her musical career, Kidjo has also made a name for herself as a tireless campaigner for children's rights. She founded the Batonga Foundation, which works to educate and empower young girls in Africa, and works closely with UNICEF and Oxfam.
