Ankathie Koi

Ankathie Koi has been a fixture on the German-language music scene since 2014, a Viennese pop institution with a punky country socialization and an overdose of the eighties in her heart. And this woman can work magic: with her voice, her unique selling point, which she likes to use for pranks, but which can also shake, shake through and delight in its depth and urgency.

The musician has successfully heaved the glam looks and synth sounds typical of the decade into the new millennium and always infects her audience with an exuberant joy in garishly colorful chaos. She spells POP in capital letters and is always ahead of the curve when it comes to trends: Koi predicted the current wave of the 80s with "Kate, it's hunting season" back in 2014.

For the first time, Ankathie Koi is venturing out of her linguistic hiding place in a big way and swapping the English she has practiced for many years for her mother tongue. Or to be more precise: a vocal language that rhymes "elegance" with "penetrance", easily combining the shiny with the gruff and at the same time not being afraid of a good pop song.

PIKANT follows PROMINENT LIBIDO, Koi, the forty-year-old self-proclaimed sugar mama, serenades the innocent young lover in "Baby Boy", self-deprecatingly celebrates him as a toy ("wie du zitterst find ich lieb"), celebrates a wild and sweetly self-destructive love in "Amour Fou" ("bin in Amour Fou genauso mad wie du") and literally makes the crocodiles dance in "Tanz dich rein".

Don't you believe it? But it's true! When Ankathie Koi is on tour, the corks are popping! So it's not surprising that her concerts often end up as lavish parties. One thing is clear to anyone who has ever been to an Ankathie Koi concert - it gets (in good Viennese) really bad and epic! The band is notorious for extending their classics into 15-minute dance orgies. So wear a little less, because it's bound to get hot!
