The most internationally acclaimed contemporary playwright Yazmina Reza, celebrated above all for her pointed dialogue pieces, has written a great monologue for her favorite actor André Marcon in "Anne-Marie the Beauty". At the center of this eulogy to the art of acting is an aging actress who has spent her entire theatrical life playing small and very small roles and has never been able to free herself from her shadowy existence. On the occasion of a (perhaps only imagined) interview, the almost-diva finally takes center stage and speaks out against loneliness and old age without dot or comma. This stubborn actress struggling for meaning is embodied by an actor of all people - a humorous and touching play-within-a-play in search of solace in art.
