After her great successes Nordstadt and Koller , Annika Büsing has now written a tender, closely observed book about a family that almost breaks apart due to the mother's mental illness. She gets very close to the thoughts, feelings and lives of her characters. As if looking through a magnifying glass, we come to understand what family can be. The one you are born into and the one you choose. A topic that could hardly be more topical.

Annika Büsing, born in 1981, was awarded the Mara Cassens Prize, the German Youth Literature Prize and the Ruhr Literature Prize for her first novel Nordstadt (2022). She was nominated for the Bavarian Book Prize, the Harbour Front Literature Festival's Debut Prize and the blogger prize Das Debüt. Her second novel Koller was published in 2023 and was nominated for the Evangelischer Buchpreis and the Christian & Ursula Voß Stiftung's Das zweite Buch prize. Both of Annika Büsing's novels have been adapted for the stage. The author lives with her family in Bochum, where she teaches at a grammar school. She studied Protestant theology and German language and literature at TU Dortmund University and spent some time in Iceland and Hamburg.
