Anora (Mikey Madison) is a sex worker from the New York borough of Brooklyn who one day not only meets but also falls in love with Ivan (Mark Eydelshteyn), the wealthy son of a Russian oligarch. The two eventually marry against his family's wishes. However, when his parents inevitably find out, they send an unusual trio - consisting of a priest with two thugs in tow - after the two lovebirds to ensure that the marriage is annulled. Finally, Ivan's mother and father arrive in New York in person to sort things out... "Anora" is an incredibly energetic and mercilessly entertaining Cinderella update for adults, in which the full tragedy of the events only hits like a baseball bat after a breathless 130 minutes in the very last, suddenly very quiet scene of the film.
