Anouar Brahem wanders freely between musical worlds, a critic once said: between those he inhabits and those that dwell within him. Born in Tunis, Brahem sought out the world at a young age. He lived in Paris, traveled halfway around the world, and his medium for getting to know the world and inviting it to join him was the oud - the short-necked lute from the Middle East. "I wanted to play with musicians from the most diverse traditions." For more than 40 years, Brahem has therefore combined Arab heritage with improvisation and jazz. He has played with Jan Garbarek and Richard Galliano. But his most recent quartet also stands out from his impressive list of projects: he recorded the album "After the Last Sky" with Django Bates, Dave Holland and Anja Lechner for his house label ECM - the title comes from a poem by Mahmoud Darwish. This work is so lyrical, so multi-layered and so finely woven that you can look forward to a magical live experience.
