Ansichtssachen - alte schätze neu betrachtet

In the organizer's words:

There has been a new exhibition at the Suermondt-Ludwig-Museum since October 3, 2024. It is called "Ansichtssachen - alte Schätze neu betrachtet". This exhibition is the result of a joint project between the museum and the Lebenshilfe workshops in Aachen.

The Lebenshilfe workshops in Aachen have an art workshop. People with disabilities work there. These artists have visited the museum several times. They took a closer look at the collection of medieval art. They were inspired by these over 500-year-old works of art with Christian themes and then created their own works of art. These works of art are very diverse, just like the artists themselves. They show what the artists think and feel. This allows you to see the old works of art in a new way.

In the exhibition you can see around 40 works of art by 14 artists. Right next to the works of art from the Middle Ages. The artworks are on loan from the Lebenshilfe workshops in Aachen.

These artists took part in the project: Daniel Abrahamjan, Mahir Akpunar, Ozan Aktas, Michelle Arnold, Sürejja Durovska, Lisa Goller, Mona Haase, Tosh Maurer, Lars Otten, Elisabeth Paulus, Carolin Rinker, Annika Sachtleben, Elke Schubert and Nam Vu.

These people supervised the project: Maria Geuchen (research volunteer at the museum and curator of the exhibition) and Hans Bothur (artistic director of the Kunstwerkstatt).

The project is part of the research traineeship "Other Views of Medieval Art -
Access for people of different world views and beliefs". The research traineeship is funded by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
