Antarktis ’89 – Letzter Sommer DDR | Eine Sommertheaterexpedition

The Kulturreederei presents: Antarctica '89 - Last Summer GDR - Our summer theater that takes you to the icy world of Antarctica! At the center is the true story of the third and last Antarctic expedition of the GDR. Twelve men travel to the eternal ice in 1989. They will only return almost three years later, to a world that has changed fundamentally and to a country that has long since ceased to exist. They only heard about the earth-shattering events at home in fragments and with a time delay. Also in Antarctica, but many kilometers away, is a FRG research team consisting only of women. The thoughts and feelings of the GDR researchers find refuge there by radio until they all return home.

With live music from our favorite band Die drei Etablierten, you can expect an evening of theater that literally makes history. From June to September 2025, we will be performing at various venues in central Germany, including the courtyard of the Ulrichskirche Halle, Kannawurf Castle, the Schleckweda goat farm, the Sangerhausen Rosarium and, for the first time, the AmViehTheater Beulbar near Bürgel. Join us as we explore the boundaries of what is artistically possible. Our summer theater expedition is more than just a play - it is a thought-provoking and entertaining summer experience.
