What happens when you put a living legend, a brilliant drummer, a top organist and a vocal super-talent in an improvising ensemble? Swiss musician Florian Arbenz wanted to find out. And he landed a real coup: None other than Greg Osby, co-founder of the style-defining M-Base collective, mentor to more recent stars such as Jason Moran and an undisputed inspirational figure in creative music for decades, is Arbenz's companion in this exciting formation. The two have known and appreciated each other for some time, and for the Kreuzkirchen debut at Jazzfest Bonn, Arbenz has brought the young London high-flyer Immy Churchill on board for the first time alongside Hammond virtuoso Arno Krijger. An exciting musical conversation!

They are the insider tip in this year's program: as Medna Roso, saxophonist Hayden Chisholm, organist Kit Downes and the vocal ensemble PJEV embark on the adventure of improvising together and create something magical. PJEV's Balkan chants, characterized by pure intervals and tight vocal lines, touch the listener with an immediate, unadulterated emotionality. Combined with Chisholm's microtonal explorations and Downes' bold harmonies on the large Ott organ, an extraordinary world of sound is created, which unfolds in all its intensity and depth in the acoustics of the Kreuzkirche. An uplifting, almost sacred listening experience.
